One way to ease your way into becoming a neutral observer is to practice an observer meditation for five minutes daily:
Now observe all the thoughts that are coming in. Let the thoughts come in, don’t react, don’t dwell on them, don’t interact with them, simply let them come and go. If you find yourself becoming involved in the thought, consciously bring your mind back to the present moment and to your breath. Let your mind become more and more focused simply on breathing in and out. As you practise this daily, it will slowly become a part of you. This meditation can be done with an object instead of breathing as well— whenever you find your mind getting involved with thoughts, keep bringing it back to the object and let the thoughts keep passing
